Evaluation 101: Program Evaluation Foundations

Are you a park and recreation professional with little to no evaluation knowledge/expertise? Complete this one-hour recorded session to learn the foundations of program evaluation and practice preparing for effective evaluation through carefully crafting program description statements that can be translated into evaluation plans. Using programs from their agencies, participants will be guided through the foundations of program evaluation and independently complete exercises that apply concepts directly to their programs. All will gain a basic understanding of program evaluation and end the course with clear language to describe the selected program that can be used to create logic models and to develop evaluation plans.
During the session, attendees will be guided through short reading segments, short presentations of instructional content, and thought and application exercises. Activities walk participants through course topics such as understanding the definition of evaluation and the evaluation life cycle, conducting collaborative evaluation design, and writing effective program descriptions that facilitate evaluation plans.
Teaching Objectives:
By the end of this event, learners will have:
1. Selected a current of future program suitable for evaluation
2. Named their own motivations for investing in program evaluation
3. Identified and valued various stakeholders to include in the program evaluation process
4. Written a program description, mission statement, and goals and objectives for their selected program
