Communities across the country are adding spray parks as one of the most highly requested and utilized recreation amenities. How can these be universally designed to be inclusive for people of all ages and abilities? This session will examine the best practices for creating spray parks that are fun for people with and without disabilities, children, parents and grandparents alike.

Bill Hachmeister, AFO

Director of Business Development, Aquatix by Landscape Structures

Bill Hachmeister is the Director of Business Development for Aquatix™ by Landscape Structures. Bill has been in the water park industry for 19 years working with national aquatic consultants, landscape architects, park & recreation departments and general architects designing spray parks, aquatic centers, water parks and resorts. He is AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) Certified and is a voting member of the ASTM F-24 aquatic safety committee. Bill has presented various aquatic subjects the following national conferences: NRPA Aquatics Conference, World Water Park Conference, International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.

John McConkey

Market Research and Insights Manager, Landscape Structures, Inc

As Market Research and Insights Manager, John tracks societal trends to create innovative playground design solutions. John develops and delivers IACET and LACES accredited continuing education programs throughout the U.S. Recent programs include inclusive playground design, fitness-focused playground design, reconnecting children with nature, and designing literacy-rich play environments.

Rickie Yeager, AICP, EDFP

Development Director, City of Parkersburg, WV

Rickie Yeager, a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners, currently serves as the Development Director for the City of Parkersburg. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing a variety of community and economic development programs and projects. This includes more than $1 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Ingrid Kanics, OTR/L, FAOTA

President, Kanics Inclusive Design Services, LLC

Ingrid is an Occupational Therapist and president of Kanics Inclusive Design Services, LLC. For over 10 years she has worked with numerous communities and children’s museums to expand their understanding of Universal Design and the importance of Sensory Play in every child’s development; helping them to create and run amazing places where all children can play together. She has presented at local, state, and national conferences on the topics play, sensory integration and Universal Design. Conferences include the American Society of Landscape Architects, National Recreation and Park Association, Association of Children’s Museums, American Occupational Therapy Association, and National Association of the Education of the Young Child.
