Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification Exam NRPAPROC

The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) exam covers five core competencies: Water Chemistry and Disinfection, Mechanical Systems and Operations, Health and Safety, Facility Operations, and Maintenance. 

The AFO exam is 50 questions and open-book. Candidates are permitted to use the following while taking the exam:

  • Aquatic Facility Operator Manual
  • Slide rule that comes with the manual. 
  • A handheld calculator (No cellphones)
  • And some scratch paper


Candidates must score 78% (39 correct questions) or higher to pass. The AFO Candidate Handbook is a great reference for taking the exam. You can find this on the Handouts Tab.

AFO Virtual Exam with NRPA Proctor
