This interactive session will provide a closer look at mentoring strategies in the development and facilitation of internships. The next generation of park and recreation professionals are eager to learn from experienced professionals through vital work experience. Attendees will learn what is needed to develop a quality internship, expectations for proper mentoring, and how educational curriculums align with industry standards. The opportunity for park and recreation agencies to build together with students to develop enhanced opportunities for communities to play together will create a win-win situation, while future professionals are mentored to become competent industry professionals.

Associate Professor
Utah Tech University
Joseph Lovell is a higher education professional specializing in curriculum development, student engagement and success, and industry collaboration. As an associate professor, Dr. Lovell's academic focus includes sport and leisure behavior, strategic management and governance, and program experience design. In his role as graduate and undergraduate program director at Utah Tech University, he has designed and implemented innovative, industry-relevant programs that significantly boosted enrollment and fostered strong partnerships with recreation and sport organizations for internships and career placement. He earned degrees in recreation administration (BA), sport and recreation management (MS) and educational leadership (EdD). His background also includes roles in campus recreation, collegiate athletics and community recreation.
